After two weeks with a newborn, these were my most used items for baby. As much as I love the cute newborn items, this is my list of the most practical items we have used - without any cute fluff. If looking for postpartum care, head over to my other blog post!
Diapers, diapers, and more diapers
We tried so many diapers in the first 2 weeks and quickly realized EveryLife was our favorite. Not only are they a company with values we trust but they were the easiest to tell when a diaper needed to be changed and prevented blowouts. Use code “HAGLUND10” for 10% off !
Diaper Genie
Our best friend at this point honestly. There are so many dirty diapers and we have not had a problem with smell with this one at all!
Muslin Burp Cloths

We very quickly ordered another set of these a few days after our baby was born. They are scattered all over our house and used consistently.
Laundry
Babies have so much laundry. They can go through several sheets, burp cloths, and outfits in a day. We have loved the soap we are using for baby and have seen no issues with it in his sensitive skin. The smell is also so much better than I expected from a natural product!
Velcro swaddles
Our baby does not like his arms and hand swaddled but he was born in the fall so we needed something safe to help keep him warm. These are super easy to use in those late night hours.
2 way zipper onesies

I am all for adorable outfits during the day but at night we are always reaching for the most practical onesie. It is easily 2 way zipper onesies. I listed a few of my favorites below.
Pee pads and dog bags
I know these don’t sound the most appealing or fun items but I promise they are very practical.
We use these pee pads everywhere. We put them under sheets, on the changing pad, in the car seat, etc. It is so much easier to throw away one of these pads than it is to do laundry.
We also keep doggy poop bags around. These bags come in handy in the car or when in public to throw that dirty diaper and wipes into to be easily thrown away especially if don’t have access to a trash can right away,
Sheets and more sheets
We started with two pairs of sheets and when baby went through both of those in his first night, we quickly amazon primed some more. We have a mini crib so these sheets are sized for that. We also layer our sheets for the winter to help baby keep warm. We use a muslin sheet on the bottom and a fleece sheet on top.

Baskets and caddies
I have a basket in each room that has diapers, wipes, burp cloths, and snacks for me in it. While especially in those early postpartum days, it was so much easier to be able to just reach for a basket of needs rather than having to go to the changing table every time.
Car Seat and stroller set up

I made it a priority to try and get out of the house a few times a week those early weeks to help myself mentally and physically even if just for a walk. I LOVE our car seat and stroller combo and baby loves it as well.

Baby blankets

Having a fall/winter baby means we need many blankets on hand. I put my favorite below!
Black and white contrast cards

Our newborn loves black and white cards. We have been able to watch how his focus, attention, and tracking have gotten stronger each week as we watch him observe these cards every day.
